When Robert Mondavi chose To Kalon Vineyard in west Oakville as the home for his new winery in 1966, he remarked that it was “a vineyard with a distinguished history and a magical nature. Ideal soils, sunlight, and rain – to my eye, the vineyard was a treasure.” Sourcing for this wine varies considerably from year to year, just depending on the season. The fruit for our 2017 blend came predominantly from the Monastery Block at the far west edge of To Kalon and the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, where the soils are rocky and well-drained. This block produces amazing fruit that demonstrates the beauty and finesse of To Kalon.
