About the Artist
Robert Mondavi Winery invites you to view Cloop! an exhibition of original work by artist James Jarrett. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, James Jarrett has worked in urban environments in Germany, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Jarrett, influenced by the street art of Keith Haring, graffiti, action painting, film and music as well as the multiform and color fields of Mark Rothko and the monochromatic work of Yves Klein. Jarrett currently works with enamels, epoxy, glazes, acrylics, spray paint, collage, molding paste and varnish.
James Jarrett sold out his first solo exhibit in 2001 at Head & Soul in San Francisco with an exhibit called "Rolling Black Out". It was a series of paintings depicting the California Energy Crises that caused rolling blackouts and power outages affecting the lives of 1.5 million households.
During the period of 2003 - 2006, Jarrett was invited by one of his biggest collectors to join Steel Gallery, owned and curated by author Danielle Steel. Jarrett participated in the Hearts in San Francisco project in 2004 . He painted and displayed a heart across from San Francisco City Hall. The heart was titled, 1000 KISSES representing marriage equality and honoring the first 1000 same sex couples that were registered and married in San Francisco.
James Jarrett splits his studio time between Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. His works are held in numerous private collections in Europe, Asia, Australia, and throughout the United States.
In 2011 Jarrett was invited by Margrit Mondavi to debut his solo exhibit as artist in residence in Napa Valley at Robert Mondavi Winery.
In early 2016 Jarrett was invited to exhibit a body of work titled "Sense 8” at former Houston Rockets and Shanghai Sharks basketball player, Yao Ming's Yao Family Wines in St. Helena, California.
Jarrett returns to Robert Mondavi Winery with a new body of work titled Cloop! which the artist describes as "the sound made when a cork is drawn from a bottle." The exhibit will through May 11, 2017.
